Our annual OPEN DAY will be held on Sunday 28 April. Visitors welcome! Come along to see what we do, enjoy a taster sail (accompanied by an experienced sailor), find out about our RYA Level 1 sailing course, have a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit (or two). We’ll be open from 11.00 a.m. Open to all ages. All welcome!
The 2024 sailing season is almost upon us! The first planned activity is our annual cleaning day on Sunday 3 March. Then the sailing programme starts a week later, with the Frostbite Series. Sailing on the River Ouse as it used to be – a selection of photos from the early 1970s. Much the same as it is today, except … The bridge still carried the East Coast main line … there were fewer trees and therefore clearer winds … there was a bigger GP14 fleet. But at least one of the boats shown here is still actively sailing at York Sailing Club today, with the same helm and crew as 50 years ago. Sailing really is a sport for life!
What brings 25 York Sailing Club members – ranging in age from under 1 to over 70 years – together for a weekend of camping and sailing? Answer: our annual visit to Ullswater in the Lake District, a YSC tradition that dates back well over 40 years. This year we enjoyed some very fine camping and sailing weather in mid-June, and almost everybody had a go at sailing, paddle-boarding or kayaking, or all three. A wide variety of craft provided opportunities for all, and the range of cooking styles on display at the Saturday night barbecue was … well, let’s just say it was interesting.

Congratulations to all the participants in this year’s RYA Level 1 sailing course, held at YSC in the early days of June. The weather was kind, the wind blew more or less steadily every day, everyone enjoyed themselves, and everyone passed.

Last Sunday (30 April) we welcomed over 50 visitors to the club, and many people enjoyed a taster sail. The only problem was that we were too busy to take many photos – but here are a few. It was a great day!
We are now taking bookings for our Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Level 1 sailing course. This is a course for beginners, or for those with a little sailing experience who want to sharpen their skills. Successful completion of the course will provide you with the basic skills of sailing and an introduction to the wider sport, as required to reach RYA Level 1 standard.
The course will be held over five evenings and one full day in early June 2023. For further details and booking forms, see our TRAINING page.
Yes, we’ve already been working on the calendar for 2023 – and we can now announce the following dates:
It’s (almost) September, and that means it’s (soon) time for our Annual Regatta, which is a joint event with our friends at Yorkshire Ouse Sailing Club. The date is Sunday 4 September. Hosted this year by YOSC. Looking forward to a great day’s competition on the river!
